George Springer contributed to the Astros securing the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their first championship series since the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the final game seven of the ALCS.
Down 3-1, the star outfielder delivered a three-run homer in the seventh frame, leading the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series victory in the series. Next up are the defending champions, holders of the defending champions, in the forthcoming World Series.
"It's incredible for this squad, our city, our country," Springer stated, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "This is such an amazing experience."
George Springer has now slugged 23 post-season home runs, placing him third on the list behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of anyone else in the world that I want up in that moment besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," said manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the one club never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Wilson commented "certainly that it's going to sting" after his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their work throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of the series," he continued.
The Blue Jays secured the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on this Friday.
