The latest action-packed instalment that audiences experienced was Far Cry 6, which featured Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the villain, Antón, and was released during October 6, 2021. As a series, it has a reputation for celebrating chaos and madness with the same excitement, all while telling gripping, ideologically themed narratives. It’s no surprise that the network’s new order for a Far Cry limited-run show pulled in two producers whose creations have exemplified all of those elements.

What to Expect

Adapted from Ubisoft's popular video game franchise, the short-run anthology series is set to premiere on Hulu and be produced by FX Productions. The show will also follow the video games' format by featuring a fresh setting and ensemble in subsequent series.

Executive Team

Rob Mac, creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the mind behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will act as showrunners on the series under their companies, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be accompanied by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.

“FX has had magnificent partnerships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a collective six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are thrilled that they are joining forces for Far Cry,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a news release. “I have no doubt that they will deliver this story in a way that is innovative, engrossing, and wildly entertaining. We also want to acknowledge our collaborators at Ubisoft for placing confidence in us with this cherished property.”

Upcoming Developments

Mac will also feature in the show, but at the time of writing, we are unsure of what role that may be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was not long ago approved for a second instalment, with FX and Disney signing a new long-term contract with the producer.

“Having the opportunity with Noah Hawley is a goal achieved,” remarked Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been exceptionally accommodating, entrusting us with one of the most famous video-game universes ever created. And along the way, my FX partners continues to lift me up with their steady confidence and assistance.”

“What appeals to me about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an anthology-style show. Every title is a take of a theme, the same way each season of Fargo is a version on a theme,” explained Hawley. “To create a large-scale action show that can shift from season to season, while always delving into the nature of society through this intricate and turbulent viewpoint, is a dream come true. I’m excited to work with Rob and bring our common bold, visionary style to the screen.”

A time frame for when we can expect the new Far Cry show has remains undisclosed. The series will be available on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus internationally.
