'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith renews contest with City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he reminisces about the thrilling closing stages of his team's remarkable turnaround triumph against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a fan's glasses amid the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range shot from outside the box, and the defender promptly hammered in the rebound before racing off toward the home end to mark the goal, with supporters swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result completed an unbelievable comeback given the team had found themselves down 2-0 deep into the final 45 minutes. In the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter shouting out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory secured a fourth-round match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith pushed hard at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when Orient took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the bar and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that far out," stated Galbraith, who played in the middle before moving to right wing-back after they changed shape. That meant competing with City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the Manchester squad who praised the way the underdogs played positively.

City's Quality

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the basics and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," Galbraith says. "It seems as if they always find their target and they are adept at dictate and neutralize a game. You can believe you're all right and then without warning they will just fizz a pass past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It demands a tough attitude and focus just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

Swansea sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a popular figure across two seasons at Leyton Orient and has rapidly done the same in his new home. At his previous team he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at his loan club from Old Trafford. Then came a temporary move at lower division the Manchester club, before he departed Manchester United.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into men's football. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears play is circulated without serious challenge. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that maturation for both domestically and internationally, shining for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has been selected in the recent fixtures, including both legs games against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's ex- international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a killer pass.

Starting Out

It has been quite the ride for the player from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his father, the elder Galbraith, also a engine room operator, play for his father's team.

Old Trafford Memory

Galbraith's single match for Manchester United came in Central Asia in 2019, a Europa League trip to the host city, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the venue ceiling was sealed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "This represented a extended travel and it was freezing," he says, smiling. "The week before, the academy prospects trained together, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

How difficult was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "This turned out fairly simple, because I reached the point where I realized I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm hugely grateful for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I believed I had to take a different path, move to a lower level and play men's football. Now I'm slowly working my way back up."

Life in Swansea

It is mid-afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called player transport, a small coach driven by team personnel, the drivers, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, Ronald, an Ivorian player – Melker Widell used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to spend time with the lads but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and behind the wheel. The Portuguese player is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

When he represented his former club, Galbraith would mix with supporters on the Tube after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
