Previous national team leader Lewis Moody has been backed to tackle motor neurone disease with "every ounce of his strength" by ex-colleague and teammate from the victorious squad Will Greenwood.

Moody, 47, found out about the progressive neurological disorder 14 days prior and has shared with a national television show that he is struggling to confront the implications of his diagnosis.

Sports icon Rob Burrow and international rugby hero Doddie Weir have both succumbed to the disease in recent years.

"He represents the best of humanity that we admire completely," Greenwood, who shared the field with Moody for both England and Leicester, shared on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"It is just tragic news, because he is among the finest people. And I know there is no order to this stuff - how you leave this planet - but you root for the good guys."

"He possesses no malice, he is the most optimistic human you can possibly encounter... and then he had an ability on the pitch to suddenly transform and be an intensely driven athlete."

"He's determined to combat this with complete dedication."

Leicester's representative, the organization's leader at the club where Moody played extensively, earning numerous national trophies and continental honors over numerous seasons, also praised Moody as someone beyond just sports.

"The statistics, honors and achievements show the remarkable sportsman Lewis was, but that is merely one aspect," commented the representative.

"Suddenly he could be showing off with the international prize and the next week he'd be in the box office where I worked, taking calls from fans if we were particularly swamped and assisting with sales."

"Personally, his dedication to the team along with his warmth and passion was evident, which made him beloved among players, personnel and followers."

"Consistently seeking to assist people, Lewis in partnership with his wife Annie have labored diligently through the Lewis Moody Foundation, backing investigations of cerebral growths and assisting impacted households."

"He absolutely threw himself in. It was truly demonstrated through action. He would never ask somebody to do something he couldn't accomplish personally. He is utterly fearless."
