Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often marked by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this endearing family navigate their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its current cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well be part of that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
